With the aim to see candidates sitting on a company board within seven years of joining the programme, the Halma Future Leaders (HFL) initiative is more than just a graduate programme. It’s a prestigious and comprehensive career route. With 20 openings every year, this exclusive pathway provides passionate young adults with the opportunity to work around the world on technology projects that are helping to grow a safer, cleaner, healthier future for everyone, every day.

From Belgium to Bradford

Becoming a Halma company in February 2023, Thermocable are delighted to welcome our very own fledgling HFL, Antoine Archaimbault!

As a two year programme, made up of 6-month paid placements, Antoine joined our team yesterday, as the very first of his four rotations – and we are thrilled to have him here.

Coming from a richly diverse background that coincides with a group commitment to EDI, Antoine is a French native, who spent the first few years of his life in Belgium. Moving to Ukraine as a 3 year old, he stayed in Kyiv until he was 6, before relocating to China for the next 8 years, split between Guangzhou and Shanghai. Transferring to Vietnam at 14 to complete his studies, Antoine finished school at 17, making his final move to the UK to study an integrated master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Southampton in 2018.

Fast forward 5 years, and Antoine has an impressive MEng qualification under his belt, coupled with a thirst for making the world a better place. Armed with his unique skillset and perspective, Antoine stumbled across the HFL programme at a careers fair earlier in the year, where he met both previous and current HFL’s – including individuals from Thermocable’s parent company, Apollo.

Calling for a diverse range of graduates who excel in problem solving, creative thinking and intellectual curiosity, Antoine ticked all the boxes, and he applied immediately!

Picking Project Thermocable

As a comprehensive but straightforward 3-stage process, including a written application, an interview, and a visit to an assessment centre to speak with existing programme members, Antoine passed with flying colours, and was appointed to the programme this summer.

Encouraging HFL’s to ‘pick [their] own adventure’, each graduate can select four respective 6 month projects from any participating Halma company, based on their interests and passions.

Generating attention from several HFL’s, we were pleased to welcome Antoine to the Thermocable team, where he will be focussing on the sales and marketing aspects of our innovative flexible heating wire technology. As a unique component part in respiratory circuits for medical applications, this life-saving technology is used globally and contributes to saving thousands of lives every year – including hundreds of premature and seriously ill babies, who are in need of incubator care.

(Keep your eyes peeled for more on that product – you’ll know who is behind the campaign!)

Catching up with Antoine in person yesterday, we asked him what drew him to the Thermocable project. He said;

“The thing that is so wonderful about the HFL programme, is that you don’t have to know what you want your career to be yet. It gives you a rotation of options that allow you to experience the corporate world, and they open doors to a variety of paths…I knew I wanted to work in a smaller business, in a development role – and I definitely wanted to experience work in an office environment… But what also attracted me to Thermocable, are the technical capabilities of the product range that is manufactured on site here. Providing linear heat detection for quick response to fire, along with flexible heating wire that literally keeps people alive, is something that really interests me. I believe there is a huge un-tapped market just waiting to hear about Thermocable products, and I want to be a part of growing that market share, while learning from the experts here.”

Here’s to the Next 6 Months

With so many developments happening at Thermocable now, we are excited to see how Antoine makes this project his own. With Halma Future Leader OG, Rob Stark, at our helm – we think  our newest recruit has made a pretty good choice…
