With the aim to see candidates sitting on a company board within seven years of joining the programme, the Halma Catalyst initiative (formerly Halma Future Leaders) is more than just a graduate programme. It’s a prestigious and comprehensive career route.

With 20 openings every year, this exclusive pathway provides passionate young adults with the opportunity to work around the world on technology projects that are helping to grow a safer, cleaner, healthier future for everyone, every day.

But in addition to just being an amazing opportunity for recent graduates, this programme is absolutely phenomenal for businesses, as we can attest to.

Welcoming Thermocable’s fourth consecutive Halma Catalyst to the team (after managing to hang on to our third, Spike Armstrong, who has now officially joined Thermocable as our BDM), we couldn’t be more thrilled to announce the appointment of Damien Tafadzwa Muchechetere as our Product Marketing Manager.

Beginning the Halma Journey

Bradford born and raised, Damien has returned to the City of Culture following four years across the Yorkshire/Lancashire border, where he studied Integrated Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester. As a four year programme – including a year in industry placement with the Spirax Group – Damien graduated earlier this year with an impressive Masters of engineering under his belt.

Crafting his dissertation principles through practical action, Damien created an algorithm for Spirax that was used to detect leaks in safety valves for steam systems – showcasing his scientific abilities, along with a penchant for detection systems (which we are very keen on, naturally).

While completing his studies, Damien was introduced to the Halma scheme by word of mouth, after which he decided to go through the application and comprehensive interview process, where he was successful – and Thermocable is already noticing the benefits!

Getting Commercial

Having been immersed in technical details for the last few years, Damien is keen to understand the more commercial side of business – while still putting his scientific abilities to good use.

Conducting in-depth market research to identify trends, geographies, competitor positioning, and customer needs, his initial focus will be on cold storage and industrial expansion – and how linear heat detection can be positioned within these markets.

Expressing his excitement to be part of Halma and Thermocable, Damien said; “I’m really happy to be doing my first rotation in Bradford at Thermocable – it’s great to be in a position that isn’t all about engineering, as it will really expand my learning, and I’m hoping to provide the team with a fresh perspective. The Catalyst programme is all about learning new skills and applying them to business and I can’t wait to get stuck in…”

Outside of work and studies, Damien is a keen football player, extoling its mental health benefits. He also loves the gym and most physical activity, which will be perfect for Thermocable’s next fundraising activity (Dragon Boat race? Three Peaks? Maybe a marathon?!)!

Here’s to the Next 8 Months

Growing from strength to strength since the Halma acquisition in 2023, we can’t think of a more exciting time to be a part of the Thermocable journey.

Rotation Lead, Hannah Hopkins, said;

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Damien to the team as Product Marketing Manager. As a key role for Thermocable, Damien will be bridging product development, marketing and sales, focusing on the positioning and promotion of products to ensure success in the market – watch this space!”
