Since becoming part of the Halma Group earlier this year, Thermocable has grown from strength to strength. Continuing our research and development, expanding our product portfolio, and investing in even more talented people, it’s been a whirlwind ride!

So, we decided it was time to take a breath, recalibrate, and do some real strategy-planning-slash-team-building – away from Thermocable HQ (and all the jobs that inevitably find us).

And where better to do this, than at another one of Halma’s industry-leading northern businesses, the amazing Minicam!?

Raising Expectations for Easier Underground Inspections

Acquired by Halma in 2017, Minicam is a specialist in manufacturing remote equipment that visually monitors sewage and wastewater for multiple pipeline applications, and has grown massively over the last few years. Combining strategic acquisition with product development, customer service and environmental innovation, the Minicam Group is a hugely successful part of our parent PLC!

Almost 6 years ahead of Thermocable in their own Halma journey, we were delighted to hear nothing but praise for their growth, development and ability to continue doing what they do best – with the same level of autonomy they always had.

Hosted primarily by Operations Manager, Glenn Guest, and Technical Director, Shane Egan, we were given a very warm welcome amidst the familiar torrential downpour of northern weather. This included a wide-ranging factory tour, free reign of the state-of-the-art kitchen/break out area (including a ‘posh’ coffee machine that we were a bit in love with), and multiple comprehensive Q&A sessions.

Creating Clarity Through Purpose

Mixing our own strategy planning in with some siloed conversations with our Minicam counterparts, we spent day 1 ‘setting the scene’, reviewing how far we’ve come and visualising where Thermocable could be in 5 years.

This included:

  • Reviewing and redefining our purpose statement
  • Identifying what we do, why we do it, and who we do it for
  • Exploring our hopes and fears
  • Defining our values, our purpose and our ambitions
  • Drafting some very questionable press releases for 2028

Expanding further on the sessions from day 1, Wednesday saw the team come together to leverage a comprehensive SWOT analysis into a clear plan, leaving the session with defined actions – and very full bellies!

Finding Synergy Within Halma

A huge thank you, again, to the wonderful team at Minicam for taking time out of their busy schedules to network with Thermocable, and show us an insight into how they operate. A big shout out to the fab marketing team, Lindsay Bradshaw and Rebekah Clarke, for answering all our questions and sharing their own Minicam branding journey.

With work starting on our very own Bradford-based site next week, we are hoping to return the favour, and host representatives from our Halma sister companies in the new year.
